What's New?

5 / 19: Both lists of anniversary updates are now completed! (Part 1) (Part 2)

“Scrooge misplaces something and loses something else.”

I've been thinking about this out-of-context spoiler (ok, all of them and some more than others) and now that we've been getting some new episode descriptions, I’m starting to wonder if it partially has to do with this episode:

As seen in “Woo-oo!”, Scrooge owns a lamp and it’s more than likely to be the one that contains Gene the Genie from DuckTales the Movie: Treasure of the Lost Lamp

The lamp in Scrooge's garage compared to Gene's Lamp in the DT Movie.

When I first read the description, I thought about the possibility of Scrooge selling the lamp, not realizing its worth or it accidentally winds up with some items he didn't mind selling. Then the warrior comes (who I’m assuming is Dijon, also from the movie) and offers a significant about of money for the lamp, causing the boys to look for it before the warrior changes his mind.  Or maybe depending on the warrior’s alliance, they don’t want him to get a hold of it.

This eventually made me think of Issue 4 of IDW’s DuckTales comics. In the second story, “Fight!”, Scrooge grants HDL permission to sell off all the items in his broom closet for their yard sale. Among the items is a cursed samurai helmet that causes Dewey and Louie to engage in battle against their will.

As I’ve mentioned in another blog post, some of the comics tend to have borrowed plot elements from the show’s episodes. The first two issues revolved around Donald looking for a job and how that element was present in the pilot episode. “Happy Happy Valley!” seems to be inspired by “The Town Where Everyone Was Nice!”. The plot for “The Incredible Shrinking Webby!” sounds similar to “The Most Dangerous Game…Night!” where Gyro’s shrink ray got out of hand. I think “Fight!” could have been loosely inspired by the upcoming “Treasure” episode.

The story involves a tale of warrior twins and a desk lamp is one of the items being sold. On the Issue’s Cover A, a wisp of smoke surrounding the samurai helmet even seems to be coming from the lamp like a genie. So, perhaps the lamp gets misplaced in a yard sale without Scrooge knowing and after someone buys it, it ends up getting passed around town to other people.

If the latter part of the spoiler isn't in reference to something else that happens in this episode, I think it’s a plot point from another one we’ll be seeing soon:

In “The Ballad of Duke Baloney!” where Glomgold’s bet with Scrooge was made, Louie and Webby arrive to the scene late and miss out on what happened. Scrooge may have not mentioned the bet to anyone else and so his determination to win may be misinterpreted.

Whatever the outcome of these episodes may be, I know for sure that May is going to a GREAT month for DuckTales fans! There are currently SEVEN episodes confirmed to premiere in May and there are still MORE to come!

Here’s a list of things to look out for when the Season picks up again.
