✨πŸŒ™πŸ—Ί️πŸ”½ You Are Here πŸ”½πŸ§΅πŸ“✨

Here's this year's piece for my June Birthday Project! πŸ₯³πŸŽ‰πŸŽ‚

Yeah, there's only one piece this time around. I was going to do three with two other couples I'm fond of, but the other ideas weren't as strong as this one. πŸ˜…

This is an old idea of mine (I sure there will be more of those; I hold on to them for years) that combines a bunch of concepts together. It's largely based on the Red Thread of Fate, where it's believed that there is an invisible string tied between two destined lovers. If Delpad was originally intended to happen, then they too were destined by the writers. LP was connected to her from the start: The first conversation we see him having, is about the snowstorm on the Drake Barrier reef; an allusion to the cosmic storm Della was involved in. He said that he would hate to fly into it and repeatedly mentioned being a pilot in the episode. At the end, we find out that Della is also a pilot in this universe. And even later, we find out that she flew into the storm. Why would they start out like this if their relationship was never meant to hold any significance? 😏

I put Della's end of the thread around her pinky in reference to pinky promises. I theorized that maybe Della's departure was partially because of a promise that was made. That maybe she promised Dad about never abandoning him and that he had a place in her family. (Or maybe Dad promised he'd be back. Or that Della promised the boys she'd be back with their Dad.) By looking at the thread, she's reflecting on what she believes to be a failed rescue mission. Her back is turned away from the other end of string, completely unaware that she succeeded.

The way Launchpad's end of the thread is tied to his finger is in refence to forget-me-knots. This, and the way he's bunching up the rest of the thread in his other hand, is playing off of Launchpad's suspected amnesia.  He doesn't remember Della as a person, but still seems to be seeking her through his dating history and his job with Scrooge

I decided to use the ceiling of the dedication room for the background because of how hint-y it is about Della's disappearance. I figured that if the Atlantian trip is anything to go by, then the storm must have contained a temporary gateway to another dimension. (The warped clouds surrounding the Moon...the star that resembles a time-altering artifact in Santa's official debut episode...the fact that time travel was a heavily theme in Season 2...and how dimensions can defy Earthy time measurements...could very well mean something.) I also pointed out how Webby receiving a bottled message at the beginning of "Beagle Breakout" about a sailor caught in whirlpool. Because she received the message after feeling excluded, this could symbolize how Della felt after Dad went to Space, along with later calling on her for help.

I brought back the idea of a map, since y'know....searching around for someone in a vast, uncharted area. I thought about adding pins like theory board but thought that maybe it would be too much. 🀷🏾‍♀️️ Something else I thought about was sneaking in that supposed cosmic storm monster-thing like I've been doing in similar pieces, but I wasn't creative enough to figure out how, LMAYO.

I also just didn't really feel like it.

As much as it feels good to concentrate on one piece instead of scrambling to get six done, I do hope I feel like increasing that number again. Maybe six can be my max. I've been wanting to get  a headstart in May...I can't remember if I've ever gotten past the thumbnail sketches before June...πŸ€”

Hmm...what started off as a way to practice my traditional inking has pretty much turned into making my own coloring pages for convenience...😐 Eeeeeh, I guess I can find a way to return to that in the next year. Or the following.
