I know I'm super late, but I gotta say something about this:

I was skimming through a book about Dwayne Johnson yesterday and it mentioned that his childhood nickname was..."Dewey".

I knew Champ-Popular was a nod to Dwayne's previous wrestling career as The Rock just by the shades alone (and, of course, a callback to the high school dream in "Nightmare"), but now with this new-to-me tidbit of information...I don't think it was a reference for wrestling sake. The name connection might actually be the whole reason why they went with idea in the first place.
