Dewey Dell-Night?

While watching “Whatever Happened to Della Duck?!” I was really surprised that a couple of references were made to the shorts. Usually, the material outside of a show isn't expected to inform us of anything that could take place in the future, they’re normally intended to be fun, little one-shots purely made to entertain us. Things that take place outside of the show aren't supposed to be significant, but when it comes to DuckTales, I discovered that that’s not always the case. A majority of the shorts and a couple of the books are created by those who work directly on the show. And the show crew can make suggestions for the IDW comic writers to create stories out of.

This area of the Disney Duck media is very in-tune with the heart of the show. Instead of just coming up with any old thing to amuse us, they tend to use this as an opportunity to express things we haven't seen on the show yet; giving us little hints of what's to come and serves as a heads up to help us have a better understanding of things. (Ex: Issues 2 and 3 gave us an idea of what Della was like before she officially appeared on the show.)

Which brings us back to the title of this post: Was the whole Dewey Dew-Night thing meant to loosely parallel Della's transmissions? Or perhaps the other way around depending on the production of the shorts?

Both Dewey and Della weren't getting the attention they had hoped for when they started their video series...

...and a lot of the plans they had to help fix their situation, went wrong.

They both get attacked while recording...

image

...both have a shot where the lights go out...

...and both of them should have thought things through instead of setting off to do things by themselves.

Dewey Dew-Night has a night themed set-up with a Moon, stars and lights that mimic stars; much like the environment Della’s been living in. In another post, I've noted how there are other instances of moons and stars that might end up having something to do with Della:

The shots of Webby's room are from "Woo-oo!" and "Daytrip of Doom!"
Della's room comes from "The Great Dime Chase!"

The Druid Stone is from "The Missing Links of Moorshire!"

Donald's Houseboat, Webby's Bathroom, and Lena's Hideout are from "Jaw$!"

The Dewey Dew-Night backdrop is from "Day of The Only Child!"

Darkwing is from "Beware of The B.U.D.D.Y System!"

Dewey originally kept his show as a secret from his brothers like the Della mystery. (Could DDN be hinting that Della was being secretive with her decision to take the Spear?) Also like the mystery, Webby is the first to be let in on his show. When the last DDN short was released, we find out that Huey and Louie know about their brother's show during the same week as the premiere of "Castle McDuck", where they find out about the Della mystery.

The “Ehhh? Ehhhhhh?!” quote is a reference to the DDN short, "Will It Crash?" and that’s exactly what happened to the Spear when Della landed on the Moon. What makes this even more interesting is that this short prominently features Launchpad in it. Not simply because of the crashing part, but the show has been very avoidant when it comes to clarifying whether Launchpad has any prior history with/knowledge of Della or not. The fact that there was a direct reference to something heavily involving LP, how he too, like Webby, was let in on a show possibly alluding to Della before we’re shown that Dewey’s brothers are aware of it and how Launchpad’s sleeping area shares a similar Space-vibe to DDN’s set-up….makes me (even more) curious about there being a connection between the pilots. (Heh, thinking about this makes made me realize Dewey’s show demo in “Day of the Only Child!” was essentially a pilot episode.)

I wonder if Scrooge's refusal to be interviewed mirrored how he wanted to avoid all things having to do with Della in Season 1. It seems like Dewey wanted to ask Gyro some questions for his show, but he didn't want to be part of it either.

Glomgold was present in the Dewey Dew-Night shorts and the bet he made with Scrooge could possibly tie-into Della’s situation. As for Manny...I’m not sure what his involvement could signify, but there was a number of horse-related things going on in Della’s dedication room...perhaps he mentioned something important in Morse code?

At the end of the last short, Dewey states that he’ll start doing unboxings. Could this be a hint to something in the future? Since “Everyday in May” is happening again, could we gets new shorts of him unboxing things? Maybe he’ll unbox something significant in a future episode of Season 2?
