Happy National Parents Day!
(...Which I'm actually a day early for?! 👀 I thought it was the 25th this year!)

Yes, that is a real day! It happens every fourth Sunday of July! Can't quite remember how I came across it...maybe around the time I created the original sketches for "Houseboat Hold"? 🤔 I know there was a point in time where I was looking for dates I could acknowledge with these two and their family.

When I found out about this day, I thought about what I could do and was reminded about an older drawing I made of LP based on a shirt I found online with the phrase "Out of This World Dad". I was extremely amused by how it fit way too well with my theory and just had to combine them. I think I considered saving it for a Father's Day idea where he's gifted the shirt but later thought about how I could add Della in her "Moon's Best Mom" apron from "Nothing Can" to complement him.

(Eh, more or less.)

Last year, I prepared to have these drawings, and a blog post about some very interesting schedule occurrences with the show, to tie-in with Parents Day. I was ready to be on-time for this and everything! But in the process, I noticed an important issue with my laptop that completely ruined my plans...😑

It wasn't worth taking the risk to make the date, so, I decided it was best to save them for the following year...which led to me being early, so, uh, things worked out pretty well in the end. 😀

I was struggling a bit with this background...I wanted it to resemble the monitor in Glomgold's tanker since I strongly believe meant to hint at two parties being involved in the cosmic storm: Della representing Scrooge's side and Launchpad, Dad, possibly being on Glomgold's in some way.

I had to figure how I wanted to go about this: I tried layering outlines over the characters, which eventually disappeared under everything else...I took the background from "Workin' Birbs" to see if I could recycle it into something new...I tried to replicate how the Drake Barrier Reef snowstorm was depicted, it started changing into something a little different...found this repeating circle asset in the  drawing program I was using and liked how it invoked waves, a signal, or a detection to represent where Dad could have been in Space; how Della was searching for him and how he could have called for help...I thought I might as well add something to represent Della's location too... then felt like I needed something to represent Earth, added the red dotted trail, and Dad would be the treasure Della was after, so "X marks the spot". 

And of course, I couldn't resist giving them a translucent outline. xD

When I was putting the background together, I thought that maybe it was a little too chaotic-looking and wondered if I should have dialed it back some. But I dunno; I think it's growing on me more. Heh, I like how I integrated the red-blue-green thing again without even trying. xD

When I was finalizing LP's shirt, (I tried my best to have the phrase show in full. It wasn't working out) I forgot what the design looked like. I purposely didn't reflect it in my drawing because wanted to do something new with the Star Wars font in my program's library. Now, I kinda do want to directly draw him in the original. 😅 I guess I'll get to it whenever I elaborate on that Father's Day idea.
