AquaDucks!
πΏπΈToday is the official 25th anniversary of my favorite cartoon! π§½π
(I don't know why the post date says "16th", I didn't set it on that)
I've been a SpongeBob fan ever since the sneak peek we got after The Kids Choice Awards.
*:・οΎ✧(´u`) That was in alllll the way back in May 1st 1999, (*wheeze*) but the show didn't start airing regularly until July of that year. As soon as it was over, I said "I think I'm gonna like this show." I was so right. :D (Post 1st movie though? Not...so much, unfortunately. π¬)
I may have been shipping Spandy somewhere just as long. Or maybe as an older kid? It was definitely one of the first I really got into. One day, I had realization about Delpad pretty much being Spandy with ducks and I was like "Oh! Is that why I like it so much?!" π And while it was a little jokey, I did give it more thought, and yeah! They really do share a lot of similarities! (Not just between ships, but other characters too!) Like Della and Launchpad, they share a lot of colors with each other; thus making them very complementary. There's also a strong ocean and Outerspace theme going on with both pairings and as I've stated before, both environments can be heavily compared to each other.
The pairings also have a disappointing element lingering in their background...
SpongeBob and Sandy were initially intended to be a couple. The pitch bible goes as far as calling Sandy "the apple of [SpongeBob's] eye" and gave a description of what they're dates would be like. The earlier seasons of the show flirted with the idea of the two have crushes on each other and the media released around the time reflected that notion. But it was ultimately dropped in favor of them just being friends. I love their dynamic in general, romantic or not, so this is still a win for me. It's just that...it was nice. And they retracted after they already gave us multiple reasons to support it. π Even though the idea is largely forgotten about in newer content, the writers for these things (at least seem to) remember it sometimes and toss in a nod somewhere. That's always fun to catch. ππ€
Ever since making my Delpad-Spandy realization, I just had to draw something combining the two. x3
I did draw a series of sketches related to this, but I abandoned them for whatever reason. π€ I can't remember if I drew the original sketch for this illustration before or after; I just know it was somewhere before "Whatever Happened to Della Duck" and the whole "switching gears" thing on my theory, so I had to update her design. I had wondered if Della's robot leg was waterproof and if it was worth showing outside of her suit. She didn't seem concerned about that in "Mervana", so...I guess?? Whatever the case, it is in this picture, lol.
I might continue to play around play around with the idea...maybe I'll get back to those sketches...let's seem what makes it.
And yeah, I'm reusing the "aircrafts in Webby's room" concept again. :P
Probably won't be the last either.
It's always the "forbidden" ones, huh?
