What's New?

5 / 19: Both lists of anniversary updates are now completed! (Part 1) (Part 2)

✨💎⚔🟢 Sharp Rebels! 🟢⚔💎✨

For the past few-ish years, I've been doing an art challenge where I focus on posting pieces on designated dates. This year, I wanted to draw each triplet doing something with Launchpad for Father's Day. Unfortunately...I was not able to get everything together in time; this is an edited post.

But I'm still completing them anyway! ✍🏾😤

I had been thinking about some Disney Afternoon promotional art where LP is preventing Louie from taking gold underneath Scrooge's hat. I found it really amusing and wanted to do something with that at some point. I also thought about how Louie scammed LP out of the golden kopesh he was awarded in "Toth-Ra" and how he couldn't bear to part with it in "Shadow War". Della then later had one during a similar setting in "Quack Pack", attached to a staff...which... now suddenly reminds me of...a spear. 😐 Dang, wow. They could totally have been hinting something with that: The moon was present, there were strange purple clouds, a powerful being, a dimension, a dad character being there this whole time and LP waving to them behind Della...🤔

Huh. Anyway, I wanted to showcase the similarities between LP and the boys since I'm sure they're often overlooked. In the reboot, Launchpad is given two different outfits for each of his jobs, but he's usually in his piloting outfit; which causes him to share the color green with Louie. I took notice of this in the past and even more so when it was revealed that Della had a green shirt too. I decided it would be better to draw him without his jacket for this one for further emphasize this.

I had thought about how LP's hair sorta resembles Dewey's when the bang is flipped upwards, like when he's wearing a bike helmet or gel'd back, like Suavepad's was, but if it wasn't blown upwards all the way, I figured it wouldn't look too far off from what Louie's would look like in that state. ┐(´ー`)┌

Launchpad and Louie share certain personality traits as well:

The cast tends to see them as being "bad at most things" and the one thing that both are good at, isn't always appreciated. To make up for a lack of experience, they have unique ways of managing their problems and are both capable of seeing angles of a situation that others can't. They've even utilizes these skills to become heroes in own way.

In one of my earliest essay installments, I speculated about HDL's Dad being along the lines of a liar or a smooth-talker, and the way LP tries to minimize his romantic side-adventures, seems to give us some of that.

Additionally, Launchpad's unorthodox way of being pilot, would technically make him a rebel. If the names "Jet" and "Turbo" come from him, I had wondered if Della's original name for Louie was connected to LP in some way as well.

I normally ink these art challenge drawings with brush marker, but I wanted to do something little different this time: I digitalized the lines, print them out to color traditionally, and placed the digital lines on top of that. And while I did mainly use colored pencils, I decided to make use of my gel pens too, since I never use them. 😅 That was another thing that didn't go as well as I planned...either they were never filled up properly at all, or they REALLY dried out. 😬 I could hardly get anything out of them for the kopesh blades! (+ LP's belt buckle) I had to extend that texture through the program I was using.

I then later threw in some jewels, or beads rather, as an afterthought to help fill up space 'n' match with theme. :3 I think this one turned out ok, I just want all three of the pieces to be done already. 😂😩 I'm hoping to have the next piece up later today but it'll probably end up being tomorrow.

No promises!
