I noticed that LP and the triplets, did something reminiscent of each other in "Last Adventure!"
- Launchpad is dressed as Gizmoduck, something Huey did in a previous Season 3 episode. I can't remember if they did something directly to one another in the finale, but this is where my mind went. In order of production, "Trickening" was first of this season to be made. So, the season starts with Huey doing this first, then LP doing this in the last part of the last episode. These instances of being Gizmoduck, bookend each other. Considering the way both Huey and Launchpad were trending in the first half of the season, it feels like there could have been something deeper behind these decisions...
Yeah, Launchpad was part of the reason why Fenton became Gizmo in the reboot. Yes, LP did wear the suit in an episode of the original series, and yeah, Huey does admire Fenton, so, it makes sense for him to make his own Gizmoduck costume...
But I find it very interesting how close this Gizmo version of Huey, comes to how Della imagined him in Season 2.
I had talked before about how the family photo could have a double meaning that traces back to the father of the triplets. How Della's initial goal was to reach Dad in Space, then after believing she failed, changed to reaching the rest of her family on Earth.
I also noted how the back of the photo seems to fall in line with the Gander-Depths episode formula. The sketch with the eyebrows automatically invokes something about Gladstone and how Louie used to admire him. I had accepted the one next to it as Huey because of him having a similar episode with Fethry; another Duck relative. The cone-looking hairstyle could also be alluding to Fethry's triangular hat. Whether it be a meta reference to Fethry or Fenton, it's still a good indication that this is meant to be Huey.
If both are likely to have connections to relatives, then it's likely to be carried on to the third one. This one would have to be Dewey. He's the remaining child who has never had a Gander-Depths styled episode. And the closest adult character we have to looking like that last drawing is Launchpad. I always sensed that something was special about it...the drawing stayed hidden until "Happened to Della" aired, just like her robot leg. Della highlighted it in "Golden Spear" by comparing the heads on all of them to eggplants when only one of them resembled the fruit. And it remained visible during Della's first meeting with LP on the houseboat.
I believe it was hinting towards an episode we would have seen involving Dewey and Launchpad that further confirmed him as his father. While the two don't resemble each other in looks, they definitely do in actions. Launchpad was even placed in a position that called back to something Dewey did in the beginning of "Depths"! (Another bookend!) Heh, none of the drawings share Della's likeness...this kinda gives off the impression that she thought they would look more like their Dad. (Now combine that with the names she originally wanted to give them. 😏)
Since Season 3 didn't end according to Plan A, I wondered if maybe Launchpad was given the suit in place of some other electrical display he was supposed to have. Wearing it pretty much makes you like a superhero, and if he was impacted by the storm, he has superpowers. I discussed a possibility, in one of my essays, that he could later use his powers to save Della or the family as a whole, based on what Lena did for Beakley in the subway and what Huey did for his mother in Legendquest. And while he was wearing the suit, it did give him the ability to defeat the villains and free the captees...if the season was meant to end with a LaunchDad reveal, but the writers could no longer fulfill it, letting him be Gizmoduck in the finale would both quietly express his mutation, and connection to Huey, without having to be outward about it.
Now that I think about it, there's also the suggestion that Future!LP from "Timephoon!" was supposed to be in this episode as well. Since the storyline was split into two, perhaps one of the Launchpads were supposed to be more involved with the family. Maybe the present LP was going to utilize his powers while the future one reflected this with the Gizmosuit. 🤷🏾♀️
Anyways, back to the rest of the gifs:
- Dewey crashes the plane like Launchpad for the third time. The first being "Raiders" and the second being "Lost Cargo". (I'm sad we didn't get much of a reaction from LP about his best friend diving into the same career path as him...lI think it's incredibly safe to say we would have gotten more than a thumbs up if the show lasted long enough.)
- Louie makes a comment about how his head sweats when he wears hats. The reboot version of LP has been wearing hats this whole time and is also shown sweating after trying to keep up with the group. Both characters are considered to be the weakest link in their groups...and show up on the same side of the screen in their scenes. 🤔 There's a little...too much intention going on here...
