☀️ New year, new art! 🌑

I was thinking about the eclipses in the season finales and thought it was...really strange that S3 didn't have one. 🤔 That finale took place in a very sunny environment and a sun was even placed on the floor of The Lost Library. 

Both Sun and Moon are needed to make an eclipse and there seemed to be an interesting uptick in moon imagery throughout that season too; in spite of things like The Spear of Selene, the invasion and Penny's homesickness being settled. Whenever the Moon is in focus, or just Space in general, we're more likely to think of how closely Della is associated with these things. Both of the eclipses we saw in the show had something important to do with her:

The first one preceded the discovery of her still being alive and the second one happened when she reunited with her brother.

Considering the reflective nature of the show, it would make a lot of sense for her to be involved, in some kind of way, if a third eclipse were to have happened. Could the other instances have been hinting about the third one being a loose combination of the two? Where Della would have reunited with someone who went missing like she did? Who also turned out to still be alive...?  And is closely associated to the Sun like she is to the Moon...? 

Launchpad seems to fit that pretty well! I don't think the show has been as outward with comparing him to the Sun, but there are multiple things to support this notion:

• His cheerful personality and friendly demeanor could be described as "sunny"
• His warm color palette
• His chauffeur outfit is gold and orange
• Even when he's wearing similar colors to Della on a regular basis, it's still warmer than hers
• The Sunchaser was named after his first plane in the original show
• His destructive, clumsy nature sometimes result in fires

If Launchpad was in the cosmic storm, and if the same lightning bolt that took out the rocket, also struck him, then all of the changes he went through, were due to the Sun. Lightning is linked with the Sun's magnetic field and the storm itself, more than likely, derived from solar wind.

I had joked much early on, before we knew what the Spear truly was, about Launchpad being the Sun if Della was the Moon. Now, there's nothing that can stop me from believing otherwise. :D

So, anyway, yeah, I wanted to draw something that resembled my thoughts on what could have been. I

 mainly drew inspiration from the DT version of "The Kiss" painting Gladstone had in "Lamp".

I pretty much intended to recreate that but had trouble with the posing. 😓 (Eh, I'm sure more kisses will eventually make it into future works.) I was also inspired by "Neverrest" and a couple of lyrics from "Ragnarok"s hero song. ✨ I had said that I wanted to add more effects to my work, and this piece certainly delivers that! I normally don't think of sprucing up my artwork with more elaborate visuals to accompany the characters. (Or at least, that's what it feels like?) I'm not all that confident with my ability to shade and highlight....😅 And I tend to get kinda impatient; if I'm digitalizing a sketch, I just want it done, lol. 

I did want to use reference from the show for the eclipse but ultimately went for real ref instead. It's an extra special moment anyway. And now that I had to go find screenshots to add to this post, it does look closer to the one we saw in "Shadow War". That's a nice circle back. I was gonna try a lens flare out too, but I was getting tired of working on this piece. 😂 Ohmygosh, guys, yesterday, I had to go back and fix something after already saving a bunch of watermarked versions. I hated having to start over again! I was so close! 😭 Even before all of this, I had the initial sketch ready some months ago, probably between August and October. Yeah, no more dragging this out; I can come back to it if I feel like I can do better. I didn't have a clear deadline for this piece, but I knew I wanted it to be somewhere in January. There's only two days left. 😬

I especially wanted this one out the way because I have three planned for next month. 😳 I made a release schedule for all of the main pieces I want to do for this year, and I want to try my best to stay dedicated to it. ✍🏾😤 And there's also a batch of text posts I need to get back to...(._.; )

Whatever happens, there will be a lot of new content on this blog to look forward to. 😁

heh, as I was putting this description together, I realized that my last regular post last year had a sunset and my new post for the new year is a sunrise...I love that xD

if only i could remember...it's too dangerous...a little too real...
