What's New?

5 / 19: Both lists of anniversary updates are now completed! (Part 1) (Part 2)

πŸ€–πŸ’₯πŸ”΄ GizmoJets! πŸ”΄πŸ’₯πŸ€–

For the past few-ish years, I've been doing an art challenge where I focus on posting pieces on designated dates. This year, I wanted to draw each triplet doing something with Launchpad for Father's Day. Unfortunately...I was not able to get everything together in time; this is an edited post.

But I'm still completing them anyway! ✍🏾😀

I wanted to showcase the similarities between LP and the boys since I'm sure they're often overlooked. We're not normally inclined to think about Huey and LP having anything in common, but they surprisingly do:

I noticed that the both of them had a fun trend in Season 1 where they were matching outfits with each other. I can't remember if this carried over into the second one, but it returned in Season 3. Della even matched along with them in "Woodchucks"! And while not in same episode, Huey dressed up as Gizmoduck in "Trickening", the first episode in order of production and LP wore the suit in the last part of the finale! (I just realized how these things bookend the season as I was typing this. x) Heh, reminds me of how Launchpad was the first to speak in Season 3 with Della being the second, and then the inverse of this happening before the show ended...and how Huey finished the "family" line LP started in "Woo-oo!"...)

I know this could largely have been a reference to the DT87 episodes where LP and the kids wore the Gizmosuit, but if LP is secretly Huey's father in reboot, supposedly, it's not impossible for this to have had more than one meaning. (Makes the "Jet" name Della had planned even more interesting.)

One of the character traits the two of them have is their fanboy enthusiasm. LP is a big fan of DWD like Huey is with The Junior Woodchucks and a little like his admiration of Fenton. They both aspire to be heroic, and in spite of their usual kind, sweet demeanor, they have the ability to be pretty frightening. πŸ‘€ (We got an outward comparison to Huey and Launchpad in Ragnarok! Twice! Huey questioned where he was the Launchpad in the situation, and he was later told to "be LP"! Like?? Nothing is going to stop me from be convinced that Plan A was going to lead into them being related. πŸ‘_πŸ‘)

I normally ink these art challenge drawings with brush marker, but I wanted to do something little different this time: I digitalized the lines, print them out to color traditionally, and placed the digital lines on top of that. And while I did mainly use colored pencils, I decided to make use of my gel pens too, since I never use them. πŸ˜… That was another thing that didn't go as well as I planned...either they were never filled up properly at all, or they REALLY dried out. 😬 I didn't bother to use them at all here.

This is the first time I’ve ever drawn the Gizmo suit, so, it probably isn’t entirely accurate. It was intimidating and difficult…the angle I needed him to be at, only increased this. πŸ™ƒ I kinda gave up a little along the way. πŸ˜… I had to readjust Huey from how I originally drew him and refused to draw him over again to make him go in the same direction as LP. To make better sense of it, I decided to add a flying trail and implied a hard turn or twist that hasn’t straightened out yet. There is supposed to be a sense of chaos in the flight since LP can’t use suit very well. I guess any clunky-ness with his pose could be because of that. πŸ˜…

I wanted to try my best to keep the background red but also couldn't get the idea of water being present out of my head. So, to compromise, I gave this area a blue tint to distinguish it from everything else. It didn't feel right for the water to be still with how fast Launchpad is flying, so I added a splash trail as well. I'm not sure if I executed it right, but eh. ┐(´γƒΌ`)┌ Maybe the suit is touching the water a little...This piece is a little out of the realm of the types of illustrations I usually do, and I have been wanting to break away more. This still fulfils a good deal of that.

Dang, this and Dewey's piece makes me wish I did more for Louie's, but I guess the lower amount of effort is fitting to his character, lol.

*Sigh* One more piece to go...πŸ˜“ I dunno if I'll take a small break or not to complete it...I don't intend to draw full bodies this time...maybe that one won't take as long...
